Mindfulness Is Power
By Dr. Cathy Greenberg
“The little things? The little moments? They aren’t little.” - Jon Kabat-Zinn
The mindful moment is where mental magic happens.
It’s your best stuff. Your most creative solutions. It’s where ad when higher consciousness thinking occurs.
So what if you could increase the length and depth of your mindful moments, from the milliseconds they normally would last on automatic response to more milliseconds, or a second or two, five or even 30 seconds? What can you do if you extend the time in between what happens outside of you and how your internal response from milliseconds (when on auto-response) to minutes? And what would you do if you could think and observe during that time deeply and without judgment? How would this affect your life? How would it make you a more effective leader?
What can you do in your mind if between something happening outside of you that you normally react to and you don’t choose to react? And then you lengthen that time? Expansion of your mindful moments is critical to developing wisdom and higher consciousness thinking.
Fearless Leaders are expansive
Fearless Leaders expand the amount of time and the depth of their mindful moments and become more expansive in their thoughts, solutions and actions.
Your mindful moments are like that space contained within a bowl – which is what makes that bowl useful. In mindful moments are the time and space of non-judgmental thought During this time, we can evaluate our beliefs, thoughts and emotions without judgment and we can bring new things in or take things out that are not useful or that limit our options. These include beliefs, thoughts information and knowledge.
Self–evaluation (check all that apply)
- When an event takes place outside of you that in your past you have emotionally reacted to on auto response, how do you react if you’re in a mindful moment?
- If asked, people who know you the best would say you have excellent willpower in your personal life.
- As a leader, you have the will to focus on long-term success even at the expense of short-term success.
- When faced with a difficult challenge, you observe that you’re thinking and using emotions from your nonjudgmental observer-self.
- When it’s most important, you expand the time of your mindful moments.
- During your mindful moments, you deepen your thoughts and create more options, including higher consciousness alternatives, to solve your important challenges.
“Anytime you have the opportunity to make a difference in this world and you don’t, then you are wasting your time on earth.” – Robert Clemente
Look over which statements you checked. How mindful are you at this point in time? Why do you think that is? Thanks for sharing.
