You Are a Fearless Leader

I was extremely honored to be hosted once by members of national agencies including representatives from SWAT, National Law Enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation and other government agencies during key NTAO (National Tactical Officers Association) conferences, where I also participated in several of their critical education programs.

Here, I learned how working warriors use state-of-the-art technology such “flash bangs” (strategic explosive devices), and how they apply key terms like “Priority of Life” (used to rate threat in active shooter situations) to their daily routine.

I sat in on hours of real crime video, “hot washes” or after action reviews of law enforcement and FBI field actions and diagnostic feedback on a host of scenarios used to build the leadership qualities that these agents pursue in promoting people into leadership roles in these agencies.

It was these teachings that were responsible for much of the research in this series of blogs. More than 300 members of the National Tactical Officers Association participated in the research related to our findings using the Fearless Leaders Quick Quiz, or in one on one interviews throughout these programs.

I was both shocked and elated when I requested support from various faculty members who both donated their time and participated out of pure interest in the subject. (Thanks again to AJ, Bobbie, Brian, Don, Dan, Larry, Mark, Patty, Tim and Tim B.)

In the face of adversity and in the face of ambiguity, there are things that we can do to make a difference in our lives, the lives of people we manage, our communities and so forth.

A Fearless Leader will undoubtedly find himself or herself in a high-risk situation at one time or another, or perhaps many times. What makes him fearless is having the qualities of creating consciousness and mindfulness. It’s having an aligned mind and understanding the tangible and intangible qualities of a situation, while prioritizing how to face a dangerous or risky situation and then it’s excelling with passion and doing it.

Have you found yourself in a situation where you found that your talents suddenly blossomed, as a Fearless Leader? Thanks for sharing.
