What Defines a Fearless Leader?

In my last blog, I introduced you to the legendary skier and entrepreneur Jeremy Bloom, whose athletic prowess, coupled with his extraordinary focus, define for me aspects of what I call here a Fearless Leader.

So what, exactly, are he qualities that make up a Fearless Leader?

Quite simply, a Fearless Leader is a person who:

  • Acts with inspired courage.
  • Reacts with resilience.
  • Thinks from a higher consciousness.
  • Excels with unrelenting fire.

Now, I’m going to explore each of these qualities, and provide you with examples of people who embody them.

Take, for example, Gandhi, the great Indian leader of the 20th century.

People have considered him to have been a man of deep thought and wisdom. Gandhi had different ideas that many people shunned. His methods of passive resistance, non-violent disobedience, boycotting and even hunger strikes until death influenced not only the British, from whose rule India he sought his country’s independence, but the entire world. Gandhi’s methods worked and as a result his messages carried on throughout other movements. Gandhi earned the title of Mahatma, “great soul.” He encompassed all of the above characteristics of a fearless leader.

Other people who shaped history include Abraham, Buddha, Catherine the Great, Genghis Khan, Queen Victoria, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Charles Darwin. As you can see, it’s impossible to position one person over the other. Thousands of people have had a cultural impact on the world, and thousands have effected real change and, even more important, were influential in our cultural and social evolution because they were, indeed, fearless.

Now, think about what kind of impact you could have. In other words, how fearless are you? How fearless would you like to be?

What if you had the right tools and guidance to accompany you on the journey? Would that make you more confident in your answer?

We certainly hope so, because that’s exactly what we’re doing here in this series of blogs (and in the book that I wrote with TC North, PhD). My co-author and I are high-performance executives and personal coaches. We’ve become experts in combining the science of fearlessness with the practical strategic applications of a good coach.

It is our goal to help leaders in all walks of life develop a stronger mental game and increase the command they have over their personal and professional lives.

Are you ready to ramp up your fearlessness? I’d love to know what qualities of fearlessness you already feel you possess. Thank you for sharing.
